According to the Indian Leather Export Council, due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the major markets of the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States, exports of Indian leather and leather products have fallen from US$4.6 billion in the fiscal year 2019-2020 to 3.3 billion in the fiscal year 2020-2021. The US dollar has fallen by 28.3%.

The chairman of the Indian Leather Export Council said: “Most overseas markets rely on e-commerce for sales, so customer demand has undergone tremendous changes. As malls and stores in overseas markets are closed due to the epidemic, customers are no longer hoarding goods.” .

It also pointed out that due to changes in the overseas market situation, customers are now also demanding faster delivery of products. But the shortage of containers has affected transportation. Although the world's major markets are opening up, industry insiders worry that the surge in the number of people infected with the COVID-19 epidemic in India will have an impact on exports.
