After inspecting the processing and production of raw hides in local slaughterhouses, Gabriel Bula, director of the Livestock Products and Food Safety Department of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries of Tanzania, issued a warning about the quality of raw hides.
Bula pointed out that although we often carry out relevant skinning training, there are still inferior hides that do not meet market requirements. We will take action on this. Our tanning industry has a huge demand for raw leather, but due to quality problems, they will not purchase raw leather produced in the country.
Bra said that the government has been working hard to improve the leather industry. According to the 2008 "Hide and Leather Trade Act," it has issued licenses to trained leather pickers and revitalized companies that have stopped work and are waiting for production.
